Wednesday, Troll station
The last several days have seen a flurry of activity around the station. As the weather has improved and the winds have died down, we have been able to make progress on many more outdoor projects that were impossible (or just impractical) in high winds.
Jon has been working on loading our fuel drums, Einar has been packing and loading boxes of food for the trip (all labeled by week), Jørn has been welding racks for the outside of the sledges to carry (even more!) boxes, and the painting team of Atsu, Karsten and Helgard have been putting the finishing touches on the modules. We’ve also been running through the last tests of our science gear and some last minute troubleshooting. Our ‘to-do’ list seems to have stopped growing and has started to shrink, and we are on schedule to leave on Friday the 16th. In the photo, Karsten contemplates the pre-flight checklist for a full systems test of the UAV. Remaining tasks include arranging the trains, putting the first week’s worth of food into the living module, gathering the last of the fuel drums, loading the UAV cargo and battening down the hatches. Almost there!
