Early in the afternoon, the Basler airplane arrived after about one hour flight from the Russian base Novolazarevskaya. The airplane picked up Art that had been struggling with stomach illness for several days and brought him safely to Troll for medical treatment. In the evening we got good news from the doctor at Troll – Art’s situation was already improving. Earlier in the day, the first ice core was retrieved and it reached to a depth of 30.38 meters or about 400 years back in time. We continued driving but due to technical problems we camped after 5 km.
