A boomerang
The alarm was set to go off at 0345 – but I think I looked at the clock every 20 minutes from 0100 on…!
We had a shuttle arranged to pick us up and take us out to the CDC (Clothing Distribution Center) for our pre flight check in – we were heading south!! BUT – just as I was heading out the door Zoe rang me to tell me we have been delayed – our new reporting time was now 0900. I tried to get a few more winks!!
Upon our arrival at the CDC we were told the weather in MCM was bad and the flight had been CANX (cancelled) for the day. We did however get our personal bags checked in and view the preflight video. For the rest of our stay in CHCH we will only have our ECW (Extreme Cold Weather) gear that we are required to wear/have on the flight south and a “Boomerang Bag” The boomerang bag has some street shoes, toiletries, change a clothes etc. incase we fly part way and have to “boomerang” back to Christchurch – or in our case the morning back to the hotel! – we will not see our other personal gear until we get to McMurdo… hopefully tomorrow.
At our gathering for Thai supper “I slept in the sun at the botanical gardens” was the most common response to what was accomplished A wonderful way to spend our last afternoon in Christchurch!
