Welcome to the Berco repair shop, 87 degrees South!

The garage tent is up and all the parts and tools have been moved into it.

Location: Camp Winter, 86.80S, 54,42 E
Elevation: 3131m
Weather: -41degC, 6kts

Rune, Kjetil, and Svein have the heaters running in it, and it is very toasty warm inside (14 C or about 60 F)…perfect for repairing and modifying the four vehicles.  The mechanics suits that they have for working on the vehicles outside are way, way too warm to work inside the tent, and so we had to improvise with some Tyvek sampling suits so they wouldn’t be too hot.

The Tyvek suits are used to keep the ice cores from being contaminated when Joe McConnell is doing very sensitive chemistry measurements back at the Desert Research Institute in Reno, NV.  Don’t worry, we’ll use new ones when we get to Joe’s core.  We have some extra suits from last year, and with a few modifications from Lou, they work just great for the guys in the shop.
They were very pleased when she was done with them.  The only problem we are having now is that is hard to get the mechanics to quit working to come in to the living module for breaks or meals because they are so comfortable.
